Dave Royce, was born in Groton, Ct. on the 4th day of December in 1967.
Dave grew up with a family of enthusiasts starting with his grandfather, Henry Royce, a motorcycle enthusiast who was a New England Hair Scramble champion in the 50's and past the racing bug to his sons. Lindsey Royce, Dave's uncle, was a motorcycle daredevil/stunt rider in the seventies. He would Jump cars ramp to ramp, wheelie through walls of fire and around the entire track as openers for stock car racing on Saturday nights. It's a family rumor that Dave's great grandfather was a test driver for Henry Ford around 1920. Driving is definitely in his blood.Although Dave was fascinated by motorcycles, he never got bit by that bug.
Instead he wanted to play with cars. Not having the resources to start early on, he started racing autocross in the early 1990's. With a passion for car set up and suspension, he joined Bill Stroppe's factory Ford Off Road Racing Team in long Beach, CA. With the help of Stroppe, he built the SuperSplash Ford Ranger to compete in the Pony Express Open Road Races. Before retiring the truck, Dave managed a top speed of 182MPH with an average speed near 150MPH. He thinks it might be the worlds fastest Ford Ranger. In 1993, Dave started racing in the NASA CMC series and has wins at Laguna Seca, Thunder Hill and Buttonwillow with podium finishes at Sears Point, Pomona and PIR.More Recently, Dave has Competed in the 2000 NASA 12 Hour Endurance Race at
Thunder Hill, 2001 SCCA 24 Hour Endurance Race in Moroso, Fl and the 2002 NASA 3 Hour Endurance Race at Buttonwillow. If the cars hold together, Dave seems to always be on the podium. Currently, Dave is employed as Suspension Development Manager for the world renowned Eibach Springs, Inc. in Irvine, Ca. Dave says he has one of the greatest jobs available. He gets to work for one of the best companies in the aftermarket and develop the handling of cars ranging from the new Honda Civic SI to Mustangs to Lexus IS 300 to the Lotus340R. He also volunteers as NASA's HPDE group 4 leader on the weekends while testing out the latest suspension from Eibach. He says he's always looking for that full season seat.
